Salut Pascal ;)

Within a recently booming branch of 4wd electric offroad racing, Hot Bodies' Cyclone D4 „competition buggy“ is the newest addition to the top of the 4wd buggy class.

With its debut at the worlds warm-up in Japan, 2006, the prototype could claim a victory - so let’s see how the production version keeps up!

Hot Bodies Cyclone D4 was officially introduced in February at the Nurnberg Toy Fair, but another few months would pass by until it finally became available to the market. In the run-up to its release, much information, many tips and tricks were available on the net, so one could prepare oneself for the real thing - which is quite exciting, considering Hot Bodies’ many successful competition models. However, this is the first serious attempt at offroad racing, and with the world championships (at the time, writing this review) still ahead, things get even more exciting.

LRP-electronic provided us with a sample of the cyclone D4 for the following review. Please keep in mind, that only a single model has been tested, so the following remarks therefore refer to the test model and cannot be unrestrictedly generalized e.g. due to serial dispersion, especially with measured values.

Tom Yardy wins 4wd Championship with Nosram powered D4

1.jpg

A rescheduled 4wd regional at the Kidderminster track in the west midlands was to be my first competitive outing as a Hot Bodies team driver. The Kidderminster track is renowned as being one of the best off road tracks in the UK and combines high bite astroturf with tarmac and clay to give a challenging multi-surface circuit. This track is used in the national series and in my regional series therefore I know it pretty well and am therefore able to tell when a car is performing well around it... and during practice I could tell straight away that the D4 was such a car. Areas of the track that are particularly critical to fast lap times were being taken with ease and the car was very consistent with my Nosram Brushless system on song all weekend. The control tyre for the day were Schumacher yellow minispikes which are not the optimum tyre on this surface, but the D4 generated huge amounts of traction and sidebite meaning I was able to push hard while feeling the car underneath me at all times.

2.jpg

The weather stayed dry all day, some temperature fluctuations impacted the grip levels and dictated the times available in the track throughout the day, however the D4 was turning consistently fast times all day. No other driver was able to turn 15 laps in qualifying... I was able to turn 3 of them, all of which very close in times despite the changing track. Round 1 TQ time was 15/321, round 2 was 15/319 and round 3 saw the fastest time of the day with 15/318. Winning 3 rounds of qualifying meant I lined up on the TQ spot for the 3-legged A final, this also guaranteed me the championship at this stage as closest rival, Phil Sleigh (Mirage's latest new signee) who was also debuting his new HB car had a few scrappy runs in qualifying and could only grid up 6th... however his pace over individual laps was very promising and with a little more track time he will certainly be a strong force.

3.jpg

The first two legs of the A final were comfortable, winning each leg by a margin of over 6 seconds and in leg 1 turning yet another 15 lap run. The car was really handling well, we had made only minor changes through the day just for experimental purposes and the car was just performing better and better. With 2 leg wins I won the meeting also to give the D4 its first win on my first official meeting with the car. I was delighted with the cars performance and look forward to working with the car more through the winter.

Tom runs in his Hot Bodies Cyclone D4 a full Nosram electrics package including the Matrix Evolution ISTC, Storm Evolution Brushless System and Nosram VTEC cells.

Congratulations Tom!

Hot Bodies, despite the rather dubious sounding name is actually an R/C company responsible for some of the finest R/C cars around today.

The name if you didn't already know comes from their original line of products - car bodies! phew, cleared that one up - let's hope not too many sites blocked this review already, but just for good measure:- strippers, hot laydeeez, bikini madness.

Hot Bodies is nowadays owned by the mighty HPI - Hobby Products International. Indeed, if you look around at the latest HB adverts in magazines and the like, you'll probably see a small "by HPI" logo in the corner, reaffirming the impression that this is the racing-oriented sibling of the much larger HPI, with their (HPI) mostly 'fun based' lineup.

Paul Rotheram has taken up the Hot Bodies D4 oople.com review car and will be racing the car, getting to grips with it and writing his experiences, good & bad.

The last two times out he's been in the A final with the car - and he's still getting used to it.

I'm sure there's plenty more stuff we can add to the D4 'area' in coming weeks / months, including mini reviews, interviews and setups.

Thanks again to Paul for his help!

All the Japanese championship specification cars - 05/12/2007

As for all the Japanese championships the Matsuzaki Hayato player preliminary round 2 rank, the Yoshioka player preliminary round 9 rank and 2 D4 challenged to A main decision and the Matsuzaki player 2 rank, ended with the final returns, the Yoshioka player 10 rank.

Borrowing this place to the people of the user participating in all the Japanese championships with people, and D4 supporting Team HB you say gratitude. Thank you.

Today we would like to introduce D4 which Team HB uses with all the Japanese championships.

Details differ depending upon each driver, but here the car and the setting point which I use are introduced.

First, this time the biggest modification pointthe slipper - is the clutchsystem.

20071205_248908.jpg

It took a second look structure entirely, the slipper - it tried to be able to adjust effectiveness the slipper - withoutremoving the clutch.

Furthermore another feature mechanism is adopted.

As for details future. . . .(It pulls)

Next is front casterblock.

20071205_248913.jpg

Caster block in caster angle of 7 degrees and 10 degrees has belonged to the kit.

Being to be many a thing which uses the caster angle of 10 degrees mainly it does, but this time furthermore caster blockof 13 degrees where caster angleis attached was used.

The aluminum with it starts shaving and, even at the time of anti- crash also durability has improved substantially without breaking.

You held down the steering wheel early reaction by the fact that caster angle was increased, you made the quality which bends securely to the cornering latter half.

Thiscaster block (13 degrees) it is sale schedule as an option part.

(As for the product there is a possibility of becoming modification such as color)

And it is the shock of the new model which has been tested from worldwide game.

20071205_248916.jpg

It takes a second look the structure of the shock case, being something which aims toward the operation which is stabilized it does.

Shock case administered special coating and gap running the whole distance characteristic became substantially good.

Because this new modelshock is sale schedule asshock set, it is the one item which we would like you to try even in the people of the user of the other car including the people of the existing D4 user.

The upper arm mount the front tested prototype.

20071205_248917.jpg

It set the position where upper arm than kit standard position becomes short and tested.

The camber change quantity became many by the fact that the upper arm becomes short, with the latest course was an effect which alleviates understeer.

Large bumper front.

20071205_248918.jpg

This time, it presented to the people of the user participating with D4 at the locale and used. As for the effect damage of the front suspension brace decreases substantially, becomes furthermore without either damage of the front bumper itself.

This time pasting the chassis protect seat in the front bumper, when landing it tried preventing the fact that the bumper is caught to the road surface.

The method of installing the front shock stay in order to prevent the damage of the front shock stay in both sides, seems that is spreading between the people of the user.

The plate washer was used as the item which furthermore does the Tips effectively.

20071205_248920.jpg

The fact that this time you use isthe M3 plate washer of EDIT (the silver).

By the fact that the plate washer is used, it can lock securely in the area which is wider than the button screw. The plate washer of EDIT is color having been even, 5 colors (the cancer/gun the meta, purple, the blue, the lead-lead and the silver) may be to think that it is easy to use, the male.

20071205_248924.jpg

Steering wheel Ackermann 1mm added the spacer.

When the spacer is increased, when cutting the steering wheel, being cut off angle of the tire outside becomes large. Because of this maneuverability of the corner and the like of small R was improved.

20071205_248926.jpg

The kappa (1.2mm) you used リアスタビ.

The silver of kit standard (1.4mm) compared to there is no straddling the rear, but it reached the point to which this time the one whose リアスタビ is thin balance front and back is good, bends cornering with smoothly.

As for end

20071205_248928.jpg

Pasting the chassis protect seat on the reverse side of the chassis, it protects the chassis.

Very balance to be good to finish in the driving present easy car it was possible with the latest all Japan.

Next we would like to introduce D4 of the Matsuzaki player.

You had forgotten to say, but the above-mentioned contents are when it is with the front diff.

Today D4 all the Japanese championship specifications of Matsuzaki player are introduced.

20071211_253420.jpg

20071211_253421.jpg

It is the paint of the same straw raincoat "HAYATO color" Horry Peint Works.

20071211_253422.jpg

12 turns of Checkpoint モディファイドモーター choice.

80/19 (the spur-gear/pinion gear) with you use gear ratio.

20071211_253425.jpg

As for mechanic KO.

As for servo as for PDS-2413ICS and ESC VFS competition 3.

20071211_253427.jpg

The front upper arm mount, 1mm it shaves the clamp face, normal compared to lowers and has installed.

The camber change quantity the front is made many, the front the roll makes easy and to do to the corner latter half has set up with the direction which bends securely.

20071211_253429.jpg

Using front caster block 13 degrees of プロト.

20071211_253436.jpg

As for リアスタビ silver (1.4mm) choice.

As for suspension block toe in 2 time, with rear hub carrier toe in modification to total 3 times of 1 time.

20071211_253438.jpg

Normal is toe in 3 time and rear hub carrier 0 degree with suspension block, but as for the HAYATO number from the rear doing the roll, the rear has become easy to move.

20071211_253439.jpg

Furthermore the upper arm mount the rear is modified on the one for front and the upper arm is made short.

Setup of these rear likes the car where driving style of the Matsuzaki player bends positively, inserts the throttle ahead of time and controls the sliding quantity the rear with throttle work and because it is the style which cornering it keeps doing, being something which is adjusted to that, does.

20071211_253442.jpg

As for Ackermann spacer of steering wheel 1.0mm.

Making Ackermann strong, the thing losing where the steering wheel is caught in cornering, have tried to be able to control smoothly.

With the latest all the Japanese championships as for the Matsuzaki player front one way choice was done.

Looking back characteristic the front seems that he desires, while showing the entering which is sharp and clearing the corner keeping opening with smallest, R and the throttle ahead of time the rear slide making the form which keeps clearing the corner just aggressive itself.

With the running only of the Matsuzaki player who has preeminent machine control technology, the gaze of the gallery was gathered.

The result regrettable was 2 rank, but next year the Matsuzaki player with D4 probably is to participate!

20071211_253448.jpg

"Next year ガンバリ the ぅ which it increases. "

Team HB used today the new slipper - introduces the clutch with all the Japanese championships.

The slipper of D4 - the clutch does, structure being simple, being also size to be compact, but unless you remove from the chassis, the fact that it cannot do adjustment was the largest weak point.

Improving the weak point developed newly

"Adjustable slipper - clutch"

Is.

20071219_259025.jpg

This adjustable slipper - the clutchthe slipper - the slipper - can adjust effectiveness by the fact that the adjustment nut is turned the point where it can adjust the slipper - without removing from the chassis reaches.

The slipper - the slipper - span of adjustable range of effectiveness was expanded by the fact that the spring is enlarged.

Furthermore new mechanism was adopted. (Is the point from here)

The usual slipper - in the clutch the output axis of front side and the output axis of rear side are directly connected and the slip quantity the front and the rear is the same.

This time it developed anew in "the adjustable slipper - the clutch" and output axis of front side and the output axis of rear side not to be directly connected the slip quantity which differs in the front and the rear the operation, (that you connect directly, is possible) has become possible.

When accelerating which 4 wheels have grounded the front and the rear almost it reaches the same slip quantity. This time the usual slipper - with it is the same.

Will the fact that it reaches the slip quantity which differs in the front and the rear probably be in case of some kind of?

As for that when and the like landing of jump, only the front (rear) when it grounds, is.

The fact that load(impact) from the tire in this kind of case is let escape efficiently is the largest aim.

Has tested this idea from before the world championship, structure differed, but it did also the encounter test with world championship.

As a result, maintenance cycle of the diff. extended substantially, drive feeling the usual slipper - could verify that it is not the clutch and inferiority.

The slipper - there are two functions in the clutch.

As for one function as a traction control, one more is function as a protection of drive system.

But, it is very difficult to make these two functions satisfy with one mechanism, is.

Just function of traction control seeing, the slipper - when it starts being effective and smoothly, the slipper - starts being effective, the fact that it keeps locking gradually is ideal.

That with only the present frictional material (slipper - pad) actualizes this operation, it thinks that it is difficult. Completely new mechanism (system) is necessary. Furthermore the compact and it must be lightweight.

Always, being to think of new idea, it does, but "it is not completely understood". . . .

This"adjustable slipper - the clutch" January of next year is sale schedule as an optionpart. Please try the D4 user by all means!
